Rainbow reminds us of God's vow to Noah
Tired of all the rain that we have been having?
Do you find yourself gazing out the window singing the old tune, “Rain, rain go away … ?” Do you feel like you need a boat more than a car? Do you wonder if and when it will end?
The weather forecast as of this writing calls for more of the same for this weekend!
With this spring’s very active weather pattern, many people have lost everything they own. Our hearts and prayers are with those who either have been flooded out of their homes or have lost everything they have through the disastrous storms that have rolled though the South and Midwest.
We have heard it said that when it rains it pours, and it can be no more true than what we have witnessed lately. With all of the precipitation that has been falling from the sky, we can’t help but think of the story of Noah’s Ark.
No matter how much rain we get, it is nothing compared to that. The world had grown indifferent to the laws and ways of God until He destroyed the people by water.
God described the spiritual condition of man in the following manner: “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of his heart was only evil continually."
It was a sad commentary on the spiritual heart of mankind. It was not just something part time, but his heart had become cold and indifferent to the man and his creator.
God made man in his imagination in order to give glory, honor and praise. So you know how the story goes. Noah was faithful to do what God asked him to do.
God gave specific instructions about how Noah was to build the ark. I'm sure there were many things that Noah did not understand about his mission, but he did it anyway.
There is a lesson for us. God can put it on our heart to do work for him. We may not understand it at the time, but you know in your heart that God is telling you to do a work for Him. You won’t have peace until you do it.
What might God be calling you to do today? Do not fight it. Do not rebel against God. Be faithful to God as He is true to us.
I am sure that Noah was met with much ridicule and skepticism by his neighbors. I can hear them say, “What are you building, Noah?”
Noah replied, “I am building an ark.”
“An ark? What’s that?”
“A big boat,” Noah answered.
“Why are you building this ark?” they asked.
