Luis Enrique denies Atletico Madrid rumors
MADRID, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Barcelona B-team coach Luis Enrique said Monday that he has not spoken to Atletico Madrid over the possibility of replacing Quique Sanchez Flores at the club.
Enrique, a former Spain international, who played for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sporting Gijon, announced several weeks ago that he was leaving his post at Barcelona's B team at the end of the season as he wanted to coach in the BBVA Primera Liga.
Meanwhile Quique confirmed on Saturday that he would not be continuing with Atletico Madrid, who qualified for the Europa League on Sunday with a 2-1 win at home to bottom of the table Hercules.
The Spanish press has speculated that Enrique has been lined up to replace Quique, but the Barca B coach says that is not the case.
"There are different people being talked of as candidates every week and it was my turn to be mentioned a few days ago. There is no agreement and there has been no negotiation with Atletico Madrid. There seems to be a moment where something happens, but I told my family and friends there is nothing, "he said.
However, Enrique has admitted he would be interested if the position at the Vicente Calderon was offered to him.
"Atletico is a very good option. It is a great club and a good chance to coach in La Liga. However, I still have three games to play with FC Barcelona B, and we'll see what happens when the time comes, "he concluded.
Other possible candidates to coach Atletico Madrid next season include former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, Athletic Club Bilbao coach, Joaquin Caparros and Levante coach Luis Garcia.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest that Atletico Madrid could turn to Luis Enrique to revive the club’s ailing fortunes.
According to Marca, Enrique is the favourite to take over from Quique Sanchez Flores, who is expected to leave Atletico this summer.
The 41-year-old ex-Spain international enjoyed a stellar playing career where he clocked up over 550 appearances during his time at Sporting Gijon, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
After his retirement in 2004, Enrique took some time off football before returning to the Nou Camp, where he followed in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola as coach of the B team.
After some impressive performances, Enrique has been approached to continue his career as head coach, with Getafe, Sevilla and Valencia all the rumors also be willing to give him a chance to management.
Enrique is known for being one of the few players to be enjoyed both Barca and Real, in spite of himself to leave the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for Los Blancos' archrival in 1996.
