Early Intervention Assessment and Treatment Program
Alannah offers an early intervention program to serve children ages zero to five years of age. The program, through screening and assessment, identifies those at risk for delays and addresses specific problems caused by developmental deficits. Appropriate developmental milestones are assessed and when a child is identified as at-risk or delayed, techniques are taught that can be used in the home to increase motor and verbal skills.
Counseling
The job of emergency counseling is to offer a sense of safety, caring and human contact in the midst of confusion and red tape. Children are removed from their homes often under traumatic circumstances. Children may come to us with only the clothing on their backs. These children need immediate counseling and support. Our beautifully furnished play therapy suite is fully equipped with drawing boards, dolls, puppets, sand tray, and a doll house. All of this helps children begin to express their tremendous emotional burdens through play and art. This suite was made possible by generous contributions .
Dental Care
We are fortunate to be able to provide additional dental care and it is made available to our foster and group home children. Limited basic dental care is provided by the state, but it can take up to two years to get authorization for braces. Most cases other than the most severe are turned down. Stainless steel caps are standard for the terribly neglected and damaged teeth that many of our children come to us with. Through generous donations we have put together funds to assist with providing composite caps, braces and more comfortable anesthesia for our children.
Backpack Program and Foster Parents Training Video Program
Alannah offers an early childhood intervention program to serve children ages zero to five years of age. The program, through screening and assessment, identifies those at risk for delays and addresses specific problems caused by developmental deficits. Appropriate developmental milestones are assessed and when a child is identified as at risk or delayed, techniques are taught that may be used in the home to increase motor and verbal skills.
Our Backpack Program is going very well and Alannah has been able to supply each new child we place with a backpack filled with clothes, books, toiletry items and toys. When the children come to Alannah, many are very withdrawn, upset, and have nothing that belongs to them. The backpack takes their mind off what is going on around them, gives them something that is truly theirs, and puts a smile of joy on their face.
We have also have a new training program that will help educate our foster parents on the "Sexually Abused Child", Appropriate Discipline and its Effects", and "Managing Depression Yours & Mine". Videos are available for home study.
All of these accomplishments and our continued growth would not be possible without your help and support. It is our hope that you will remember the needs of our children, and that others will join our valued group of supporters in this powerful and rewarding work.
